  1.                         Description of the MAIN screen of PC-Hypertext

  4. The MAIN screen of PC-Hypertext appears when you load the program or press
  5. the ESC (escape) key.  The purpose of this screen is to:
  6.

  8.      │    - Show you your location in the hypertext network          │
  9.      │    - Show you the choices of subtopics to select              │
  10.      │    - Show you the system commands that you can select         │
  11.      │    - Show you the status of the system                        │

  14. Before describing each of these items, the various areas of the display
  15. are:
  16.  
  17. Smaller left box   Displays the current topic.  The highlighted number in
  18. ================   the upper left corner is the node number in the current
  19.                    network file.
  20.  
  21. Larger right box   Displays the topic selection cursor as well as topics
  22. ================   listed for selection.  The cursor topic is highlighted.
  23.  
  24. Listed commands    The available systems commands are listed in two rows
  25. ===============    below the two boxes.  The current command is
  26.                    highlighted.

  28. Other lines        The top and bottom text lines on the screen display
  29. ===========        the status of file, memory, and selected settings of the
  30.                    PC-Hypertext program.  The second line from the bottom of
  31.                    the screen displays messages, prompts, and command
  32.                    descriptions.

  34. With that, I can tell you about the systems.  For example:
  35.  
  36. What is your location in the network?
  37.                    Your location is specified by one or more of the
  38.                    following three items -- filename, current topic, and
  39.                    current cursor position.
  40.  
  41. What are the subtopics you can select?
  42.                    You can move the cursor topic (in the right box) by
  43.                    pressing the Up/Down Arrow, PgUp/PgDn, Home/End keys,
  44.                    by entering a desired topic number.
  45.  
  46.                    You can control the text displayed by pressing the F2
  47.                    key which toggles between displaying the 1st text line
  48.                    or all text lines of each topic.

  50. What are the commands you can select?
  51.                    The display lists eight system commands.  Press the
  52.                    spacebar or 1st letter to select a desired command.
  53.  
  54.                    The available keyboard commands are not displayed.  Press
  55.                    the F1 key to see the available keyboard commands at any
  56.                    point in the program.
